Love Thy Neighbour – LTN is a new chapter for the rural development. Bangladesh is one of the least developed countries of the world and number of population now touches more than 150 million. Bangladesh itself is like a big most thickly populated village as a whole and 88% people live in the undeveloped rural area . Density of population is one of the highest in this world. More than 87% people live below the poverty line most of whom can’t earn their livelihood properly for various reasons. Among the rural population, 80% people are basically landless, poor and continual victim of ignorance, superstition, natural disasters, unemployment, health hazards, gender discrimination, local violence& crime, high rate of child birth etc problems.
Bangladesh Government has from a long period of time been operating agro-based, fisheries, husbandries, cooperative, integrated rural development programs, but the limited influential people, affluent farmers, local leaders, pump machine holders, mahajans and middlemen have been exploiting all these advantages , local resources & scopes associated with local government and other governmental social/economic/ administrative/judicial services & national budget-based local/regional socio-economic development programs. On the other hand , the small and marginal farmers, rural landless agro-labors, destitute /oppressed / destitute women and unemployed youth, helpless child & adolescent communities have not been benefited from the above government programs.
In 1995, upon this entire context, depending on the promising and accelerated leadership of Mahamuda Begum, as an NGO, Love Thy Neighbour – LTN emerged to foster integrated rural development especially in gender perspective.
