Background of the organization:                     

A group of social workers under the leadership of Mr. Kazi Md. Abul Kalam Azad (a long experience & professional development activist) has been started AWARD for development initiatives in Sylhet in the year 1997. Because still the region belongs to relatively under served, local development initiatives are not enough and potential, Government services are available in the urban/ Sammy urban or well communicated areas but not in remotes. The fundamentalist are playing a dominant role in the society where high population growth, high mortality and morbidity of pregnant mother & infant, high dropout in the primary education, poor reproductive health facilities,

Women are deprived from their rights; public resources are under the control of the rich peoples, but the region Sylhet is well known for its public resources like kash land and natural fisheries (haor/baor) tea garden, gas & oil etc.

 

Objective of the organization:

To promote the socio-economic status of under privileged rural peoples, Human resource Development, Education, Health & Nutrition, Environment, Social justice, networking development. The specific objectives of the organization are as follows:

– Grass root organization development.

– Public resources mobilization.

– Awareness and skill development of rural peoples.

– Create employment opportunities.

– Intensive work with mothers & children for their rights and socio-economic development.

– Removal and antiquation of adult illiteracy.

With the on-line education, people can now take advantage of this opportunity offered by the officially given government in a union of outreach area seeking employment in the country, applying for jobs abroad, filling out various forms, and doing various legal development programs. If a few students and teachers are given this training in a backward upazila like Companyganj upazila, then they can be able to mention the ordinary people of the entire society in this regard. Narrative description of Project:

Approximately 1.5 million girls are studying in madrasas around the country. Most people of Bangladesh especially sylhet are religious minded and they want to send their girls to the Madrasas. Study has shown that 50% girls dropout before starting the higher secondary level and wedlock in premature age. Only 3 to 4 % girls join at the workforce. Besides, due to the poor involvement of NGOs, government and community, teaching learning system is very poor and there is no soft/hard skills training arrangement for the girls. Madrasa can carry many negative meanings- they have image of being backward, outdated and preaching extremist ideology to breed and train terrorists. Most of the madrasas use curtain between the boys and girls students in the classrooms.

For implementing the project, 15 madrasas will be selected from Sylhet region and two teachers and 30 girls from each madrasas will be taken from grade 7 to 9 and 3 days capacity building training will be provided. Before imparting the training to the girls an orientation workshop will be arranged for the relevant people of madrasa education. After implementing the training, a girl’s club will be formed. The trained girls will take leadership and the clubs will run for one year. In one year they will practice the skills and each club will focus on developing a mini project. Such as; to learn how to make handicrafts/ how to speak in English/how to handle computer etc. Girls’ clubs in madrasas can provide the girls a safe environment to engage in important capacity-building training and to acquire relevant life skills, like leadership, communication, and negotiation. Gaining skills means gaining confidence in them and that confidence will help them to stay in school longer and to speak out about the importance of their education. At the end of the year, there will be a sharing workshop where (30*15) 450 girls will share their learning with the larger audience.
