Background of the organization:
Unnayan Sangha (US) is a non-governmental, non-political and not for profit organization established in 1980. Considering socio-economical vulnerability of the disadvantaged group of people some of the benevolent and enthusiastic persons formed this organization for developing socio-economic conditions of the poor and poorest people. The head office of the organization is situated in Jamalpur District town. It has 38 project offices in different working districts. It is mentioned that Unnayan Sangha has a Development Training and Resource Center (DTRC) with the facilities of 2 training hall rooms, accommodations for 60 participants, adequate dining space, multimedia projector, sound system and musical instruments. Presently more than 280 regular staff and about 4000 paid volunteers are working with Unnayan Sangha. The staffs have come from different discipline those are well trained and committed to make effort for the development of vulnerable community.
Since its inception Unnayan Sangha has been implementing different development programs on group formation and development, child and adult education, health-hygiene and nutrition, livelihoods development, child protection, women empowerment, agriculture, livestock, fisheries, rights and advocacy, apiculture, sericulture, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation. The main activities under disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation have been implementing by the organization are- early warning, rescue and placement, relief and rehabilitation, flood recovery, child friendly space operation, women friendly space operation, nutrition and WASH support, emergency medical support, training on climate change adaptation, social forestation and road site plantation, road and culvert construction and maintenance, school construction and repairing etc.
Unnayan Sangha has good partnership with different national and international organizations like- UNICEF Bangladesh, CARE Bangladesh, Save the Children, CLP, Land O’ Lakes Inc., Chemonics-PRICE, NGO Forum, Naripokkho, OXFAM in Bangladesh, World Vision in Bangladesh etc. On the other hand the organization has an effective and good relationship with local administration, line departments, local government and NGOs in its working districts. As a result the organization has been implementing different development programs successfully.
The organization received fund from different donors like- DFID, AusAid, USAID USDA, DANIDA, OXFAM in Bangladesh, Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP), Manusher Jonno Foundation, European Union, WFP and Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Including above all the previous donors were Shapla Neer, APHD Hong Kong, SCF-British Columbia, Japan embassy, ICLARM, CORDAID-Netherlands, Action Aid Bangladesh etc.

Unnayan Sangha presently is working in 575 unions of 76 upazilas in 9 districts (Jamalpur, Sherpur, Netrakona, Kishorganj, Mymensingh, Gazipur, Narsingdi, Tangail and Sirajganj) of Mymensingh, Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions covering more than 32 lakh households including about 14400000 populations.

The vision of the organization is “A society, based on equality, fairness and good governance, which can ensure sustainable development and people’s empowerment”.
Mission:
To work with exploited and disadvantaged groups of the people particularly poor, ultra-poor, Indigenous groups and differently able communities, men, women and children living in plain land, river basin and hilly/haor areas of Bangladesh for their socio-economic development implementing different socio-economic and right based development programs.

Governance:
The organization has a General Committee consisting 21 members (Female-9 and male-12) and an Executive Committee consisting 7 members (Female-3 and male-4). The general committee is the supreme authority of the organization. The executive committee is reportable to the general committee and it oversees the overall activities of the organization. The Executive Director in relation Deputy Executive Director and other Directors runs the organization’s day to day activities and he is reportable to the Executive Committee. Other managerial staff runs different programs managing program staffs and other resources.
